South London Demons 3.9.27 def by North London Lions 8.5.53

The Super 3's headed to Bounds Green to take on the Lions in round 6. The Lions were off to a slow start in 2018 so it was a must win game for them to keep on track for finals. We knew that winning the match could almost secure us a top 2 spot. The stakes were high!

Coming into the match we had a number of changes and had two first gamers in the team in Jack Cotton and Glenn Sandford. We were kicking up the hill in the first quarter and we fought hard. The result was we managed to contain Lions and give ourselves a good opportunity to benefit from the downhill in the second quarter. The second quarter was a tight struggle with both teams competing hard. We created a lot of opportunities but failed to capitalise on them and we went into half time with a 3 point deficit.

The third quarter was a decisive one, Lions pushed hard and we lost our way a little bit. This saw them score some easy goals and establish a lead. We had to work hard and refocus to pull ourselves back into the game. We went into the final quarter with a 4 goal deficit to overturn. The last quarter was a stalemate as Lions slowed the game down which made scoring tough. We continued to fight but the game was lost in the third quarter due to our lapse in concentration.

We had some really solid performers on the day and there are positives to take from the game as we build towards the final 3 matches of the season. Will Sutton was excellent down back along with Webby. Nudge gave us plenty of grunt in the midfield and big Susan Strelec had a good impact when he came into the ruck. The team are determined to atone for the loss and we're fired up to take on Wimbledon head on this Saturday!
