RD9 '18: Demons vs Hawks (Women's Prem)

Mitch "Boxy" Skelly | 20.07.18

Wandsworth Demons 7.12.54 def Wimbledon Hawks 0.0.0

Saturdays game against the Hawks was the final chance for the women's Premiership side to have a hit-out before the 2018 finals and get prepared for the footy to step up a notch. We also welcomed Tracey and Meeks to the team for the first time, and say goodbye to Karis and Keatchy for this season, however we're hoping to see them again in 2019.

The first quarter went completely to plan, Springs taking a nice mark and converting, Tracey snagging a goal on debut and the Dee's up by 4 goals at quarter time. The skills were as hot as the sun overhead, with the midfield dominant and the backline trying to keep themselves interested having not seen much of the ball...

As the game progressed there were more and more brown and gold jerseys flooding our forward half and the scoring dried up a little. Noodles was dangerous with 2 goals, Spud was creative at half forward and our backline remained impenetrable. With victory looking somewhat likely we made some changes, Julz went forward and kicked a goal, Damo took some nice marks on the wing and Trucker shifted to the midfield. Down in the backline Tester was playing the sweeping role to perfection and Karis was becoming good friends with her opponent 100m away from the action with little chance of involvement.

Running out winners 54 to nil means we keep the winning streak intact and the percentage over 1000%. Whilst this is a great way to end the home and away season, that all means little if we don't win the next 2 games – a semi-final followed by a grand-final. With a week off before finals all players not playing conference this Saturday are expected to be at the game to support as well as to take part in a training session out at Hackney Marshes.

Goals: Noodles 2, Springs, Porta, Linda, Julz, Tracey
