Rd 4: Demons vs Putney Magpies (Premiership)

Ash Walsh | 25.05.16

Demons 21.13 (139) def. Putney Magpies 2.5 (17)

The premiership team showed their class against an undermanned Putney winning by 19 goals.

Although the Dees started slowly in the first quarter, it all started to come together in the second with Big Andy putting on a show up forward kicking two of his four for the day and the mid field delivering plenty of ball for the forwards to capitalise on. The Dees took a strong lead into the break as some light rain started to fall.

Although the water coming from the sky didn’t last long, it sure did start raining goals in the second half with plenty of boys getting in the action. Red and Rousey seemed to have the ball on a string with Jet doing much the same across the half forward line. The backline as they did all day, repelled anything that came even remotely near them with Nath notching up his 15th mark for the game in the fourth quarter – the Putney coaches are still trying to work out where his man was. Just like last week, it was the non-aussies that stole the show getting plenty of ball and hitting the scoreboard – Goodie was again a standout with first gamer New Zealand Richie showing plenty. In all it was a solid team effort with everyone contributing to a great win.

This week’s ANZUK Play of the Day goes to Jet and Andy for their multiple link ups in the second half. Jet not once, but twice dodged multiple Magpies on the wing to swing round and hit Andy lace out on a strong lead who then rewarded the hard work by slotting them easy as you like.

We now enjoy a break before playing under lights against the Hawks in two weeks time.

Goals: Andy 4, Rousey 4, DJ 2, Pitto 2, Red 2, Eoin O'Murchu 1, Jet 1, Goodman 1, Nath 1, Tez 1, Ash 1, Rabbits 1
