RD5 '19: Demons vs Giants (Men's Social)

Clapham Demons 16.16.112 def. South East London Giants 1.1.7

The weekend saw the Super 3’s jump on the 37 out to glorious Peckham Rye for a clash with the South East London Giants... missing a number of regular stars and our Captain (again) we embraced the challenge to step up and bond together and take on the Giants on a beautiful morning in Peckham.

Some slight confusion in the pre game and a couple of injuries saw last minute changes with Dan Currie and Scotty Milne (after a sausage roll and a dart) being drafted in before the bounce.

The first quarter highlighted problems with the size of the ground and our set up, but John Dillon made sure we got on the board and used the breeze to our advantage. The usual suspects of Stephen Pilgrim, Lachlan Robinson, Shane Morgan, Darcy Looker and Xavier all showed why we’re undefeated and sitting on top of the ladder.

With the Giants struggling to get any decent ball, our biggest challenge was ourselves - how we were using the ball and setting up around the ground. Once we changed that set up, the floodgates opened and our Super 3’s debutant Jayden ‘Chip’ Carter started to get the ball in our spacious 50m arc. On one leg, nursing a dodgy knee, Chip managed to set his radar after a bad start to collect 5.5 for the day.... expecting big things from Chip in the finals this year!

Once again our ROWs stood up. Jaeger and Big Coran were brilliant all day. The big man even snagged his first goal in Australian Rules Football!

In the end a 112 - 7 victory was deserved and well enjoyed by all and sundry!

A HUGE thank you to all the a Premiership girls who came with us on the bus and chipped in everywhere. Special thank you to Kate Scodellaro, Karis Hughes and Jamie for their help organising, running and general awesome stuff.
