Conf - Shepard’s bush Raiders v Wandsworth Demons

Jay Medwin | 23.07.21

The Demons flicked on the switch and short-circuited the Raiders to continue their charge to a grand final berth with a victory in a one-sided affair at Clapham Common. On a day that meant much more than footy, raising funds to beat MND, the Demons bought fight and overran the Raiders from the opening whistle. The class of Alex Coe, Duncan Grey and Robin Zhou led the charge with big man Seb Matheson creating first use at every opportunity.

The Dee's continued to create a hefty 10 goal margin in the second quarter, with big men Charlie Rae and James Noske running riot up forward. The usual class of James Barrie provided quality use off half back.

The third quarter saw the Raiders offer their only real threat of the day with some solid ball use and contested possession on show. Matt Sharrock and Zach Ballard were thrown forward in an attempt to return the momentum to the Dees, Sharrock was in absolutely everything and kicked a beauty, returning confidence to his team.

In the last it was the Charlie Rae show; the boys were feeding him everything and he was converting… finishing with 8 he'd had a pretty good day at the office.

Post-match though, it was clear who the standout of the day had been, the razzle dazzle of Josh Rankin was spoken about well into the night, he was in absolutely everything, and did it with class. Most notably dancing three raiders in the demons forward half in front of an elated demons' fan-base. The big fella took the coaches votes for a best on performance.

The victory sets the demons conference boys up for enticing race to the finish line. A pivotal game on the Common awaits this Saturday at 1pm.
