Round 1 - Prem Boys v Swans

Ben Eddy | 12.05.22

Footy was well and truly back in London. The Mens Premiership opened up their season account with a fantastic win against the London Swans on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Hackney Marshes.

There was a genuine sense of excitement. New Year, new opportunity and a new look team, going into battle against an honourable opposition who we knew would fight the good fight and defend their title.

From the first bounce our boys refused to take a backward step, bringing an intensity around the contest and a drive to be first to the ball which provided us with first use.

Jack Rolfe and Niall Young were prolific in the middle, taking advantage of the dominating ruck display from, Paul Watson who was instrumental in providing first use.

The backline had an outstanding performance led by Coach, Michael Corso and Vice Captain, Tate Skinner, with the London Swans only managing to kick two goals. We’re excited to see the backline keep up that level of pressure for the rest of the season.

Our forward line created plenty of options for goal scoring opportunities, with Frank O’Donnell kicking two instrumental goals and our little centre, Joe Lloyd, impressively booting one from 50 meters out. But I’m sure Joe’s mentioned this a few times already.

Being my first game with the Wandsworth Demons, assisting Micheal Corso coach the prems team, I couldn’t be happier with the result and I’m very excited about what’s to come this season. Great work boys!
