Round 3 - Mens Conference - Dee's v Hawks

Jonas Manley | 30.05.22

With round twos win in the books the conference boys were looking forward to a tough contest against the Wimbledon Hawks. Team selection during the week was a roller coaster with blokes pulling out left right and centre, but due to the clubs amazing depth we were able to give a few guys their first ever game of AFL footy.

The hawks got the jump on the demons early in the first quarter with two goals, before the switch was made to put jake summers into the ruck. Jake, Duncan, Hesse and Jay wrestled back the momentum in the midfield while Rowhen and Bryce hit the scoreboard. Veteran Rob Murphy copped an elbow to the nose, breaking it and ruining any further modeling work, but he bravely played on.

Brand new players James Gregg and Ben Metais started to get a hang of the game and applied great pressure down back. By half time the score was close, with the hawks clinging onto a narrow lead.

The second half saw the captain Duncan go down with an injury and Kade suffered a broken foot, both out of the game. Despite this the boys rallied and pushed the game to the final siren, going down by a couple of late goals.

As always a massive thanks to all the volunteers who make game day possible and we now look forward to a couple of weeks off.
