Rd 2: Demons vs London Swans (Conference)

Pitto and Pitto | 13.05.16

Demons 8.9 (57) def. Swans 4.0 (24)

Two weeks in and the first W for the Magoos. An all round team performance leading to a comfortable victory over the Swans.

With 12 new players from the first week, it was always going to take a bit of time for the team to start gelling and playing well together. This showed in the first half where we looked the goods and had clear possession advantage. However, we lacked the finishing touches and failed to really impact on the scoreboard. The Swans had a few lucky runs of play and a few umpiring decisions went their way leading to scoring opportunities. Despite our clear advantage on the field, this didn’t show on the scoreboard. The backline, like the first week, really played well and was our springboard heading forward. Mitch Skelly and Coach Conor both shutting their opponents down and looking at setting up attacking opportunities. Sharpley and Fulton were walls in defence and look to be a very handy lock down backman, Sharpley with a bit of claret on the old nog’in to prove it!

The second half saw the boys start to gel a bit more and create a few more link up passages of play which lead to more scoring opportunities. Big Benny the backman moved up forward and provided a much needed big target for the Dees entries inside forward 50, slotting some nice goals along the way. Walshy continued where he left off last week and is proving to be a big presence around the contests. Bambi yet again did a great job in the ruck providing taps to the advantage of the Dees. The midfielders all contributed with everyone bobbing up and playing their part. Cliffy snuck in to the forward fifty and added to the goal feast with a few more sausage rolls of his own.

A good win for the Dees! And a good base to keep working on for the weeks ahead!
