RD7 '17: Demons vs Lions (Conf)

Anthony White | 30.06.17

Demons 13.14 (92) def Lions 2.1 (13)

After two good wins on the trot, the challenge for the Magoos was to maintain the good form against strong opposition in the Lions. In what is a very tight conference competition this year, every game is crucial, and this was no different.

The tone was set early as the Demons controlled the opening quarter. The midfield got on top early with Will Andrew, Jarrell and G making the most of the dominant ruck work from Susan. This week we welcomed Big Undy and Cooney to our forward line. Their impact was felt immediately and we saw a forward line that really worked well together. On the end of some first class delivery from the midfield, we managed to start on fire, opening the game kicking 5 goals to the Lions 1.

The second term, despite some inaccuracy, saw the Demons control most of the quarter. Some great teamwork from the forwards, and some excellent rebound from our defenders, the Demons were able to go into half time with a commanding lead.

The second half saw much of the same as the Demons kicked away, eventually winning by over 10 goals.

Everyone played a role this week, but special mention to Will Andrew, in what was probably his best game for the year and reaped the benefit of the tap work from Susan to really got us going through the middle. The forward line lead by Andy and Yeao provided dangerous targets all day and the ever reliable defence lead by Fults controlled the game from start to finish. But it was NZ Richie who was the stand out performer for the day, able to shut down his opponent while providing plenty of drive off the half back line.

And last but not least we said farewell to premiership player and club favourite Sandells in his last game for the club! Congratulations on a fine Demons career.

The Magoos now look forward to two weeks off and then look to re-set, as we take on Putney in another crucial game for the year.
