FINAL '17: Demons vs Raiders (Conf)

Clapham Demons 4.5 (29) def by. Shepherds Bush Raiders 7.8 (50)

With a strong squad and a number of very unlucky omissions, we went into the final with the belief that we had the team to get the job done against the Raiders who as per usual were going to come with a strong squad of their own.

The first half we were beaten around the ground and allowed the Raiders to execute their game plan with relative ease. Whilst not being in control of proceedings we went into the break three kicks down and the team certainly maintained their desire to reel in the lead and turn the performance around.

The third started reasonably similar to that of the first half. A neck injury to one of the Raiders at the 5-minute mark of the quarter saw the game come to a complete stop for a prolonged period of time. We looked to swing a couple changes to see if we could spark a comeback in the remainder of the quarter however in challenging them we left ourselves open and they scored the next two majors of the match.

All before us going into the last, some more changes were made and we certainly took it up to them. We started to find some space and our run and ball movement come together. A responding goal consolidated their lead but it was certainly a fighting spirit that saw us take it up to them in the last.

A disappointing end to an overall very strong season. A really great bunch of lads that genuinely had a crack for each other week in, week out. Certainly not all was lost on the day for the club as a whole and it was great to see the squad pick themselves up and get around the 3-premership teams successes.
