RD1 '18: Demons vs Wildcats (Social)

Ray "Bubba" Wright | 02.05.18

South London Demons 5.2 (32) def. by Ealing Emus 6.4 (40)

Expectations were high coming into round 1 after a really solid preseason. There were plenty of new faces coming into the match and we knew Wests would be a tough challenge to start the season with.

The first quarter was a good one for us with the entire team starting strongly. Kiwi Dave was giving us first hands in the ruck, the half back line and centers were working hard and the forward line looked dangerous. Goals to Coombesy and Bresci gave a solid quarter time lead.

Unfortunately our mindset changed at quarter time and so did the momentum of the game in the second quarter. Too often, we gave up front position in contesting the footy and we were made to pay with Wests kicking three goals.

The third and fourth quarters were an arm wrestle and we had our opportunities to push the ascendancy. Unfortunately we just couldn't capitalise on those opportunities and ultimately that cost us the match as we went down by seven points.

There were some positive performances on the day to highlight with Kiwi Dave performing well in the ruck, Hayden Drage (Nudge) giving us plenty of bite in the midfield, Boocky provided strong running off the wing and Bresci was influential across half forward and into the midfield.

The goal now for the team is to assess the reasons we went down and then address them in round two. We're excited to tackle North London head on and bring home the win!
