Rd 3: Demons vs Lions (Conference)

Pitto & Pitto | 18.05.16

Wandsworth Demons 13.3 (81) def. North London Lions 9.6 (60)

The Magoos chalked up their second win for the season defeating a strong Lions side by 21 points.

It was all the Demons in the first quarter with the mid-field running rampant kicking with the wind and delivering dangerous ball inside 50 that was quickly snaflled up by Mitchy and Thommo who provided some excitement up forward in a change up from the coaching staff. The Dee's held a five goal lead into the first break after an excellent quarter. The second saw a more even contest with the Dee's holding strong kicking into the wind to still lead at the long break. Kiwi showed his promise on the wing in the first half with new comers Fulton and Gardener showing their composure across half back.

The second half was a tale of two quarters with the third being a frustrating one - the boys got lazy and took their foot off the pedal to let the Lions back into the game going into the last quarter. With the wind advantage, the Lions kicked the first two goals of the quarter and were up and about making it an even contest. To the boys credit, we stuck fat and eventually our determination and leadership was too good for the opposition, being able to kick four goals for the quarter and put the game beyond doubt late in the game. Casa, Dod and Hank were strong through the mid-field with the ever reliable Sharpley delivering the goods down back.

The win was a great team win and show of character when we had our backs to the wall - well done fellas! We're back down at Peckham Rye as we look forward to taking on the Giants this weekend and push ahead of the pack on the ladder. Hope to see you there.

Goals: Thommo 3, Mitch ‘Boxy’ 2, Hank 2, DOD 2, Sammy V 1, Nick Nolan 1, Sam Drake 1, Shaun McKay 1
