RD3 '18: Demons vs Giants (Men's Social)

Ray "Bubba" Wright | 30.05.18

South London Demons 26.16.172 def South East London Giants 0.0.0

Round 3 saw the Super 3s take on the South East London Giants at home. Coming into the match we had 10 changes overall with 4 debutantes winning a place in Reedy, Jackson, Baz and Macca. We were uncertain of how the Giants might line up so we came in strong for the match with a good blend of experience and youth across all lines. The first quarter was a slowish start by us and inaccurate kicking cost us early as we went in 5 goals and 8 points to 0 at quarter time. Libba was very effective for us in the first quarter snagging 2 goals.

In the second quarter the team really started to step it up and we saw some excellent contributions coming from Lachie in the Ruck, Hoarey as Ruck Rover and Skinny at Centre Half Forward giving us a good target to work through. At half time we went in some 14 goals ahead and realised this was an opportunity to really boost the percentage. We made some changes to the side to bring other players into the game and they performed very well. Baz and Macca gave us plenty of run, Sharpely was leading well at Full Forward, Crispy was finding the footy down forward and in the Ruck, Terry gave us plenty of run off half back and Bresci was moving well across half forward. We blew them apart in the third quarter and lead by 21 goals at three quarter time.

The last quarter was an enjoyable one for the team and the boys finished full of talk and run. Jackson O'Neill found plenty of the footy, Hank was finding his touch and Big Susan got his hands on a few grabs at full forward. Eventually we ran out 172 winners with the Giants not managing to score for the match. Huge shout out to the back line who completely shut them down all day and only allowed one forward 50 entry the entire match! Top performers on the day were Lachie, Hoarey, Macca, Terry, Dills and Bresci but it was a fine contribution from the entire team. Thank you to all the players who helped out with tasks around the team such as umpiring, water, team prep and also a big thanks to the other club members who helped support. A big thanks to David Lumley who was assist coach for the day. Some sublime match ups from Darvid!

Onwards and upwards for the Reading game on June 9th!
