RD1 '19: Demons vs Swans (Women's Conference)

Chris jones | 16.05.19

Clapham Demons 0.0.0 def. by London Swans 2.3.15

The conference girls faced a grand final replay against the swans to kick the season off. A great start to the day with all making the trip up including emergencies, our physio Tori and two of the men’s stallwards Tank and Dundon – a huge effort by all and a true indication of what this club is all about! #oneclub

With 19 new players to the club gracing the field and lead by our coach for the week, injured skipper Juice, it was always going to be a massive task ahead of us against a Swans team who had many returning from last year.

Across the day we faced attack after attack with the usual congested play from the Swans. This made it very difficult to clear the ball and play our game. They were looking to make a statement early in the year - to our credit we absorbed the vast majority of it across the day and going into the last term we’re still only a couple kicks off them from causing an upset.

We swung a few changes looking to see if we could crack their relentless attack and in patches it appeared to really penetrate their defence, but didn’t result in points!

Overall a massive effort by the girls and smiles all round - plenty of great individual efforts – special shout outs to G-Banger who had a huge game down back, consistent and reliable. Georgia, who when thrown on the ball made an impact every time, Kristen with some great tackles and ice who had a good day on the ball. We have lots to take on board for the next round, but one thing we we would say without hesitate, was the spirit, passion and determined from start to finish was inspiring. Great enthusiasm by the whole team and we will come out fighting again next week I’m sure, but this time we will play our game!!
