RD3.5 '19: Demons vs Hawks (Women's Premiership)

Wandsworth Demons 7.16.58 def. Wimbledon Hawks 0.0.0

Wimbledon came to town, but Wandsworth got the chocolates!

The prems girls faced down the Hatchlings in the 3rd game of the day and everyone was looking schmick in their tennis whites, a great crowd and atmosphere.

Playing 16 v 16, normally you drop the wingers but Wimbledon decided from the outset they'd drop 2 forwards instead, and play a loose down back. It didnt help them.

From the start, we were the dominant team, playing in our forward half as we like it, and holding it in pretty well too. It didnt go down to our backline too often, and they held firm each time. This was despite rotating some players who don't normally play defence, as there was half a team on the bench for most of the match. For the 2nd time this year, Wimbledon did not register a score against us.

However it wasnt all roses, as the dêja vu continued from the last game. While not being one to focus on score lines, last time we ended the game with 9 goals and 15. This time we finished 7 and 17. Some goal kicking practice will be a strong focus at training this week, as well as our forwards providing more options. They still did well as a group to get shots on goal, and fight some scrap pier ones in too.

Our movement around the contest continued to be mainstay of our game though, even with some of usual best missing. Katie 'Bobby' Scodellaro stepped up in her 2nd game, filling in the hole out the back. She got plenty of possessions, and used it well upfield to continue our movement. A like for like replacement, and thankfully so.

Again providing a strong presence high in the forward line was Emily 'Wetwilly' Kelly. She took a good few marks on the 50, right in front, giving us a great platform to deliver to our full forwards. She also finished with 3 goals to her name. Bonnie 'Buckets' Johnson really lived up the her nickname this week, getting on the end of Kelly's entries. A true full forward, when she puts her hands up, I would bet my house she'll catch it more than 50% of the time everytime.

It was another good win, undefeated for the season, to take into arguably our biggest rivals in the North London Cubs, played Wesnesdsy this week. #letthegirlsplay
