Rd 5: Demons vs Wimbledon Hawks (Premiership)

Ash 'Ash' Walsh | 09.06.16

Wandsworth Demons 18.13 (121) def. Wimbledon Hawks 5.2 (32)

The Premiership side showed their class under lights last Friday with a strong win over the Hawks.

The game was played all on Demons terms, dominating possession and getting plenty of clean ball into the forwards who didn't disappoint, especially Big Andy Smith who slotted six majors for the day - thats 11 in two games! He wasn't alone with Rousey chiming in with three and Cooney and Jet doing their usual work up forward snagging a few.

The backline held strong led by Sammy Drake and Nath who thwarted any attacks coming their way. Through the mid field, the usual suspects in Red, Harry, Walsh and Nic Nat won plenty of ball with Benny Durance having his best game for the season doing what he wanted out on the wing and being involved in multiple link ups out of the back half. Again the non-Aussies showed how good players they are with Captain Eoin, Andy, Nic Nat and new comer Conor all showing they wouldn't be out of place playing footy anywhere in the world. In all it was a great team game with everyone contributing.

This week's Aussie Man with a Van Play of the Day goes to Benny Durance and Big Andy for their delicious link up play in the first quarter. Benny got on the end of a loose ball 60m out from goal heading towards the boundary, slipped back in board past a few Hawks and then absolutely laced out Andy on his opposite foot who was streaming out from the square. Of course in typical Andy style, he went back and slotted it through the big ones with the double fist celebration.

It's a massive game for the Club this week against arch rivals the Wildcats and we hope to see you down their to support. Watch out for how you can donate to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.

Goals: Andy Smith 6, Rousey 3, Tez 2, Cooney 2, Jet 1, Alan 1, Irish Eoin 1, Dj 1, Benny Durance 1
