Grand Final - Super 3's vs Sussex Swans

Xavier Holland | 01.09.22

After a superb performance in the preliminary final, the Super 3's travelled down to Motspur park full of confidence  and belief that we could take down a team we had yet to beat in AFL London. The Sussex Swans were at full power, but we had the wind at our back and went in knowing we were in the hunt.

The first quarter ended in a stalemate, with either side giving an inch. Swans up by a couple points.

The second quarter was a domination from the Super 3s, with possession parked in our forward line. We had chance after chance but could not convert some golden opportunities. We finished the half 6 points up after finishing with 8 behinds despite our efforts.

In the third quarter, luck didn't go our way. The Swans kicked the first and through a 666 free kick they immediately went forward again to then receive a free kick again in the forward 50. A 50m penalty was awarded afterwards to the Swans on top and they kicked two in a couple mins. That was enough in the end.

With the Swans setting up defensively to protect the win and us being unable to penetrate from our back half, the final quarter saw the Swans contain possession and stifled our chances of a come back.

A disappointing finish to a difficult season. It hurt and has put the fire in the belly of many of the Super 3s. Next year we will be back. Next year, we will be bringing home the flag.

Mark my words.
