Rd 2: Demons vs London Swans (Premiership)

Ash Walsh | 13.05.16

Demons 22.10 (142) def. London Swans 6.7 (43)

The Premiership side showed their class against the Swans last weekend running away 99 point winners on a perfect spring day.

The Dees dominated from the outset with the mid field getting on top early giving Rousey, Jet and Kev plenty of ball inside 50 to work their magic. The Swannies were never able to get into the game with the Dees piling on seven goals to one in the first quarter. Although the second saw a more even contest with the Dees going into the wind, the game was all but over at half time with a 50-point lead.

The trend continued in the second half with Nath and Nobby repelling anything that came their way, only allowing three second half goals. The half back line and mid-field got on top, playing an exciting and accurate brand of footy that saw our forwards receive excellent delivery. The forwards capitalised on the hard work, especially Big Rousey who had a day out kicking a big bag of 10. Jet also chipped in with a cameo performance slotting four for the day. Lego, Irish Kev and Oe showed that the EU and ROW contingent is not to be out done putting in really strong performances and getting heaps of footy. There were also the usual suspects in Red and Jeffers getting plenty of the ball through the middle, with newcomer Benson showing promise. In all, it was a great team effort with everyone contributing.

The ANZUK Play of the Day went to the fresh faced DJ who picked up the ball running full tilt on the wing, dodged two players, then arched around onto his right boot to hit big mits Rousey lace out on the lead who went back and slotted one of his 10 big ones. #delicious

This week will be a big challenge against last years’ premiers the Lions. Hope to see you down at the Common.
