RD4 '17: Demons vs Giants (Prem)

Frank Caldow | 02.06.17

Wandsworth Demons 29.15 (189) DEF South London Giants 2.4 (16)

It was the first home game of the year and a drenching rain and some people power watering the oval came up quite nicely. The opponents for the day were the South East Giants who are in their first season in the Premiership competition after being promoted from the Conference last season.

Giants got out of the blocks in the first 5 minutes having a couple of inside 50s but thanks to some strong work for the back 6, including first gamers Joe Lloyd and Wardo, we were able to keep them off the scoreboard. Jesse Dimasi slotted 2 early goals and for the remainder of the quarter we were all over them 6.6 to 0.0.

We started the second term slowly and this gave the Giants the momentum for the first 10 minutes of the quarter, allowing them 6 scoring shots. From that time on we took total control of the game and Giants just couldn’t go with us, remaining scoreless for the remainder of the match.

The second half was clinical from our boys, Drakey and Durance were pivotal is setting up play from behind the ball. Disco was class in the middle waxing with Will Sutton and H in the middle to find a ton of footy and with the tripod of dangerous forward marking options in Rouse, Tex and Rabbits we were always going to have too much class for the opposition.

Well done to our ROW first gamers Joe Lloyd and Wardo who showed plenty of promise down back with Joe Lee also finding dangerous space up forward.

Play of the day went to club stalwart Tank who does a ton of work off the field and finally got an opportunity for a senior game. When finally given a chance late in the second term he immediately laid a massive tackle on the back flank then followed the ball forward taking a mark on the halftime siren and slotting it through the big sticks.

Best: Durance, Rabbits, Drake, Sutton, Dimasi
