RD7 '17: Demons vs Lions (Prem)

Ash Walsh | 30.06.17

Demons 16.11 (107) def Lions 4.5 (29)

After a fierce clash in round two that was only decided by a few kicks, it was a different story at the Common last weekend - with the Prem side pulling together their best game of football for the season.

In a perfect day for football and finally, a lack of wind, the Dees jumped out of the blocks to apply heaps of tackle pressure resulting in the ball going in long to Rousey - who finished off the hard work - kicking four goals for the quarter. The second played out much the same as the first, with the mid field on top led by Jeffers, Harry L and Gav. The backline also thwarted any attacks only allowing one goal through for the half, meaning the Dees went into the main break five goals up.

The message at half time was that good sides don't let up, and needed to put the Lions to the sword in the final half. To the boy's credit, they answered and it was a dominant display with some fantastic passages of play right across the ground. Sammy Drake was magnificent across the half back line, out marking his opponent often and turning defence into attack - ably supported by Nath and Bowler who had their best games for the year and the ever reliable Lego and Lloydy. Up the other end it was party time with Pup and Wilba snagging some sweet goals, Rousey finishing with six for the day and Tex sneaking through three.

It was a fantastic team effort on the weekend with no passengers, and the most exciting part was that our non-Aussie contingent is leading the way this year playing some fantastic footy. If we keep playing the way we did on Saturday, we should give it a red-hot crack come the business end of the season. Look forward to taking on the Hawks, Giants and Swans before getting stuck into finals footy.

Best: Drakey, Jeffers, Harry L, Rousey, Gav
Goals: Rousey 6, Tex 3, Harry L 2, Sutton 1, Rabbits 1, Oe 1, Pup 1, Jeffers 1
