Rd 3: Demons vs Lions (Social)

Wandsworth Demons 9.11 (65) def. North London Lions 4.2 (26)

The Super 3s were once again in the privileged position of having approx. 40 guys available to play last weekend, meaning that a lot of new faces were picked to pull on the mighty Demons jumper for the first time – including an old/new coach – as Chicken Tim Donovan decided to embark on a two week hiatus to go find himself. The team is in safe hands in your absence young Chicken.

The message pre-game was simple – get ball, kick GOALS, drink froths, and while the likes of newbies Jack Flannagan and Peanut were getting their hands on the ball and getting it forward, unfortunately our sharpshooters were wayward. In contrast, North London were clean with their possession and capitalised on our wasted opportunities going ahead at quarter time by a goal and a half. Today was going to be tough.

After quarter time though the boys started to find a groove. New cult hero Dicky Benson finally started to sober up after knocking back 25 cans the night before and was getting his sticky mitts on the ball around the ground, and with the back 6 lead by Posty and Shakey repelling most attacks, we started to grind down North London.

A big premiership quarter was needed into the wind and the boys delivered, breaking the game wide open. 3 goals from Matty Garland and some candy from Conor Fitz (covered in butter) broke North’s spirits. A special mention to first gamer Liam Gleeson too, who was winning some hard ball deep in our backline. We went into the last change some 4/5 goals up and did what we needed to do in the last quarter to run out comfortable victors. Overall, it was a classic team performance with everyone contributing. Gee, we drank a few frothies after the game too…

(Super) 3 wins, 0 losses means we are on track to achieve our target of a top two finish, but with some important games coming up in the next 2-3 rounds, we need to keep working hard at training and at the Alex and improving on our game.

Goals: Matty Gatto 3, Animal 1, Irish Conor 1, Doc 1, Gealy 1, Dicky Benson 1, Bubba 1
