SEMI '17: Demons vs Wildcats (W.Conf)

Demons 0.1 (1) def. by Wildcats 4.2 (26)

The top of the table semi final clash saw conference women take on the undefeated West London Wildcats on their home turf. With 0-2 record against this team it loomed to be a tough day at the office. Both fielding the full 18 complement, it was the Wildcats who were able to draw first blood and quickly get on the scoreboard setting the tone. Controlling the sky and with some pretty impressive ground ball work too was our ruck Sarah with 25+ hit outs, who worked tirelessly from starting siren to finish. After a second first quarter goal to the Wildcats our Shedees ignited and started to work their way into the game keeping the ball out of scoring range for the Wildcats, H was ferocious in the backline providing tough pressure and sticking tackles at anyone who tried to get past her. Our girls ended up racking up more forward line entries for the quarter, however unable to convert into goals.

Unfortunately the second quarter followed the same starting script, the Wildcats came out firing piled on another 2 quick goals again and then faded within 5 minutes in similar fashion. This was something to capitalise on. Jo and Connos at Sarah's feet worked tirelessly through the stoppages allowing the Shedees to again control more of the ball and keep it out of the Wildcats forward line for the remainder of the quarter. Ryano was everywhere and plucking any ball that flew over her head through the centre and along the 50 line, however the Shedees were just a little too far out to hit the scoreboard.

A four goal buffer and entering the premiership quarter showed just how tough our Shedee back 6 really were, working overtime as the Wildcats feverously peppered their forward line, but not their scoreboard! Juice's defensive pressure really came to the fore with some great tackling pressure and some big 'don't argue' fends with ball in hand was ably supported by some very smart play on the last line by LV as well as Frenchy working her way into the game. With Arnie taking several marks this quarter too. A move of Prinny to the Wildcats ball magnet also proved handy in nullifying her influence on the game. The corralling pressure for this quarter held them GOALESS!

With nothing to lose and everything to gain, a 3 quarter time speech asked the girls to give it their all. LV again working tirelessly in the back reading the ball well as it came in and getting the ball back out of trouble effortlessly. Prinny's tagging task proved a masterstroke and a tight defence caused the wildcats to make more mistakes under pressure. Unable to convert to goals, the Shedees did well to keep them SCORELESS!

It was a big assignment @ Chiswick and unfortunately the Shedees weren't able to get on the scoreboard, but with passages and flashes of brilliant play the second chance this week at North London against the Swans is ours for the taking. A couple of things to work on and tweak this week at training and the advantage of having played consecutive games (swans had a forfeit). It is our turn to rewrite the 1-1 draw from our last Swans encounter and our turn to get the last ticket to join the rest of the club in August! Give it your all this weekend ladies and let's go 5 from 5 in the GF. #DEE5
